Most of our students don't come from families like this. And the ones in need of most love ask for it in the most unlovable ways. I don't know how many times I've fought for my students who had no advocate. Or the system was manipulating and intimidating parents. It's up to teachers to not only teach, but in some cases, advocate for those students who deserve the same opportunities as every other student.
Someone has to love them anyway. It just may be their teacher.
