About Me

+JMJ

I have been teaching for over 10 years with experience in 5th grade Science and 2nd grade, working both in a self-contained classroom as well as up to a 5 block rotation. I have also been the coordinator for Family Science Night since it started in 2006 at my previous school. I have also been involved with the Youth Ministry since 1999.

I have been involved continuously in professional groups, volunteer organizations, faith and family affiliations. I was the Teacher of the Year for 2012-2013 for my campus as well as the District Teacher of the Year for 2012-2013. My professional interests include continuously staying up to date on reading research, looking for and trying best practices in the classroom, as well as ongoing action based research in the classroom.

I am currently self-contained in 5th grade, using various teaching styles such as small group in math, reading and science, as well implementing the Classroom Economy. The Classroom Economy is an excellent tool for teaching financial responsibility created in partnership with teacher Rafe Esquith and Vanguard. An award winning 5th grade teacher and author of There Are No Shortcuts, the details of the free program can be found at http://myclassroomeconomy.org/.
